Firstly, thank you all for thinking critically and posting insightful comments regarding our 2011 - 2012 Student Handbook! As one staff and one family commented: " I think we are headed in the right direction...a good balance between changes and high expectations for everyone!"

On behalf of our school community, we extend our greetings and a warm welcome to all students and families of Mohawk Trail Regional School for the opening of the 2011 – 2012 school year!

We look forward to working closely with students and families in multiple ways to grow and learn together. The “themes” that will guide our work this school year are:

School Spirit, Community Partnerships, and Communications

Through our work with formal and informal student leadership, we will be working on increasing school spirit from the classroom to the playing fields. The Student Council, Varsity M, the Peer Leadership classes and many other students will help focus our community on ways to invigorate the Mohawk spirit. Please stay tuned for more information on how you can join this effort.

As we learned from the eighteen Community Conversations that the Local Educational Council (LEC) and administration hosted throughout our nine towns last year, effective partnerships with community members, families and students lead to positive improvements to the educational experience for students at Mohawk. We heard you and we will be inviting you all back in mid-September to join our next Community Conversation to hear our plans for continued work together.

Effective and meaningful communication is a cornerstone in every thriving community. We invite you to keep communicating with us as we work to improve the educational experience for our students. Changes to Student Handbook

Thank you Anonymous for reminding us to post the changes! We have worked extensively with students and staff all last year and throughout the summer to make changes that make sense in our Student Handbook for 2011 - 2012.

Thanks to everyone who contributed their thoughtful and constructive ideas about proposed changes to the the Student Handbook and other school policies.

We are putting together a draft of the 2011-2012 Student Handbook taking into consideration many of the changes that people have proposed.

Please stay tuned for updates, previews, and proposed changes...we will need you feedback on the final version that we will all live with this next school year!

How will this blog work?

Thank you for checking out the Mohawk Blog. Principal, Lynn Dole and Assistant Principal, Joey Kotright Clark along with tons of support from our Technology Director, Ed Skutnik, we are the authors and hosts of the blog. We plan to utilize this blog to get feedback from the community regarding many topics/issues/concerns relevant to our learning community.

Based on community feedback, we have generated these general notes on how we will begin to use the blog. We plan to grow and get better at "blogging" over time and with your creative and constructive feedback.

How it works:
We will post a topic. In the posting, there will be 1. a description of the topic posted, 2. a period of time for commenting and 3. when the comment period is closed. All comments are "screened" by a blog author and posted to the blog. Any comment deemed inappropriate will not be posted, but retained in records for review if needed. We will post any updates or helpful information on the blog and reply to comments or general themes that arise.
