  1. My 8th graders are fascinated with this blogspot and will be posting comments periodically over the next few days. They are skeptical that their comments will actually be posted but I have assured them that as long as their comments are respectful and appropriate they will be posted. (I hope I was correct in telling them that.) Another concern they shared is that their comments don't matter or won't make a difference. Again, I tried to assure them that the faculty and administration is legitimately interested in what they have to say and will be trying to consider their comments as policies are developed. ~Julie

  2. Thank you for commenting! You are right, as long as the comments are respectful and relevant, they will be posted. Principal Dole and I are the blog authors and moderate/post all comments.

As an administration, we are genuinely interested in, and supportive of student ownership, students rights, and the power of student voices at Mohawk!

And please do not take that for granted, we should be help to that statement daily and specifically with regards to changes in the Student Handbook for next school year.

  3. Thank you for expanding the communication between students and staff with this blog. The students should have the privilege to have some time in the gymnasium in the morning. I am a student, and during the MCAS days I had the opportunity to go in the gym, and I played a lot of basketball. I felt more awake once I went to class, because I got the chance to move around. I also was more relaxed in class and more attentive, because I got the chance to expand the energy I keep in during the whole school day. The students should have the opportunity to have the choice to play in the gym every morning after they get off the bus to 7:40am, so we can expend energy and have fun and wake up.

    1. Well technically speaking, you do! Basketballs arent always accessible due to the gym teacher not being there. However the gym is always open for your recreational use before school until 7:40

  4. School times should be switched elementary and high school start times should switch on some days as an experiment to see how learning is affected by sleep and later school times for high school

    1. Actually, the administration is working on it already. All scientific experiments lead to better performance in school with a later start. I will certainly check in on there progress and get back to you.

  6. hi my name is trisha,Andrea, Molly and Jordan
i do not want ms. k to leave next year because she is a very good teacher and she also does a great job with her work and she likes helping students and working with students as well. She has done a lot for the music department and we as students have seen the imporovments in the music department. She brought back colorguard for the marching band and the plays have been amazing with her being the music director. The music department will not be the same if she leaves and more students have gotten involved with the music department over the last three years she has been working here at school.

    1. Well unfortunately there are many personal reasons and complicated issues involved with that matter, however i do share your disbelief of her departure, along with many other classmates. But in the limited power i have, i am unable to know the exact reason why she is leaving. I hope this helps.
